Though, before heading out, Jon has second thoughts about it... A page for every wish could start getting the binder to be really big after a while, and ripping out pages might not be the best way to undo the wishes. Further, some wishes he might really want to keep permanent and not have a chance to undo - such as preventing someone's death or something major.
So, after a lot of careful thinking and tricky wording, the notebook has been modified as such:
- Every wish is recorded on a new line, and new blank pages are added as necessary.
- Wishes are recorded in pencil.
- Erasing a wish causes it to be uncancellable by the notebook (and thus, by the stone as well.)
- Crossing out a wish cancells it.
- Pages from the notebook cannot be removed.
Then, just to be sure it works the way he intended, he decides to test out a few minor wishes.
"Alright, now to be sure... I wish the shirt I was wearing was red." Sure enough, he's wearing a new red t-shirt, and the wish is recorded in the notebook. With a pencil, he draws a single line through the written wish, and the shirt returns to normal.
"Then... I wish again that my shirt was red." Another innocent enough wish, one that won't cause any chaos by it being uncancellable. This time he carefully erases the written wish and tries to wish his shirt back to normal. Without fail, the shirt remains red.
With a thoughtful expression on his face, Jon considers. "Well, if wishes are now cancellable, there are some things I'm curious about...." Setting the folder down and taking the rock firmly in his hand, he closes his eyes and screws up his courage. "I wish I was a girl."
