Jon had always wondered how his mom had managed to walk around all day wearing high heels, and now he was wondering how he was accomplishing the same feat. His gait matched his mom's perfectly as she walked beside him, their pumps clicking on the floor as one. Janet, his mom's coworker and good friend, walked with them as well.
"I heard Susan got caught fooling around," Janet said.
"Serves her right," Jon felt compelled to say with his mother. "Everyone here knew she was having an affair, it was only a matter of time before George found out." Jon didn't even know who Susan and George were, but kept on chatting about them as though he had. Still, the woman had it coming for cheating on her husband... wait, where did that come from?
After a short walk, Jon and his mom arrived at a cubicle next to Janet's. Luckily, there were two chairs. Jon wasn't about to let himself sit on his mother's lap, or vice versa. Not that he had any choice. They sat next to each other, and began working on TPS reports, their fingers somehow typing away on the same keyboard, hitting the same keys together without a single typo. It was then that Jon noticed his manicure. His fingernails were a deep burgundy, again just like his moms. Kim had done a good job on them. He'd have to remember to tip her well next time. Wait... how did he remember that? It was as though his mom's thoughts were entering his mind. That was a bit frightening. First he couldn't even control his body, and now his thoughts were not his own.
He tried to focus, but the line between his thoughts and his mother's was sometimes hard to find. It didn't help that his body was totally focused on the task at hand: finishing those damn reports. Luckily, they took a break from typing for a minute and Jon felt a bit of clarity. He glanced over at a picture in the corner of the cubicle. It was the Madison family photo, taken over the summer. Before, Jon had been seated in front with his brother and sister. Now, he was standing behind them, between his mom and dad. Wearing the exact same dress she was wearing in the picture. This was too weird. Too heavy. He just wanted to get up and run out of there, find Karyn and the rock so he could get back to normal.
Instead he and his mom both turned back to the monitor and sighed. This job was so monotonous sometimes. He just wanted to get out of there and go shopping, like Janet suggested. He could use a new blouse, maybe some new shoes. Maybe even get something... special for Roger. Wait... what?!
