Karyn and Jon had just entered the cafeteria when they saw Sarah coming toward them. "Finally! What took you so long? I was about to go looking for you."
Karyn looked discretely at Jon. He was staring at Sarah open-mouthed, not unlike her earlier this morning. "Sorry," Karyn said, "I had to talk to Jon about something."
"Was it about what you wouldn't tell me this morning?"
"Kinda..." Karyn hesitated, not wanting to make Sarah worry more.
"Are you ready to tell me about it? Now that Jon's here." She sounded a little hopeful.
"Sorry... I'll tell you tomorrow." By then, they would have used the stone and it wouldn't matter. That was Karyn's reasoning and the reason why she accepted to confront Sarah despite not knowing anything about this new reality.
Sarah looked seriously at Karyn before sighing. "Alright, I can wait..." Once she said that, a small smile reappeared on her face. "Let's go eat! I was waiting for you two and I'm starving now!"
Karyn nudged Jon to get him out of his stupor and they followed Sarah to get their food. "So," Karyn whispered to Jon while they walked, "What do you think?"
"It's so weird... I can't convince myself it's really Sarah" Karyn stifled a laugh, she knew the feeling very well.
"Try not to look too shocked by everything, though." She warned him. "She might notice and become even more worried."
Their conversation was cut short as Sarah began talking to them. She didn't ask about Karyn's 'problem' nor did she even mention it. Instead, she simply talked about what she did on spring break, how she had gone on a vacation with a few other cheerleaders in some city Karyn didn't know but where she apparently partied a lot. She then asked them how their spring break had gone, and as they answered, Karyn began to feel more at ease. It was surprisingly easy to talk to her, considering Karyn only remembered the school bitch she was before. She began to feel as if they really were friends, even though she knew they weren't until yesterday.
The conversation continued all lunchtime. There were a few slip-ups when they talked about things that Karyn and Jon didn't remember from their reality, but none that were too bad, they even learned a little more about this Sarah. It seemed her parents were divorced and she lived with her father. She also seemed to resent her mother and tried to stay away from her as much as possible. But there were still parts of her that stayed the same. She was still quite girly, loved fashion and loved talking about it, but she seemed to know that Jon and Karyn didn't share her passion as she quickly stopped when she saw the awkward look on their faces. She still didn't like goths, but she just ignored them, as opposed to bullying them. She however wasn't against complaining about them, saying they had no taste at all, that they were only doing that for attention, that they only cared about themselves, etc. Jon surprisingly seemed to agree with her on that subject, talking about how annoying his sister was.
As lunchtime came to an end, Karyn realized she had fun. It wasn't something she expected to have today, but talking to her felt like talking to Jon. It felt like talking to a friend.
Soon, lunch break ended and Karyn was surprised to realize she wanted to spend more time with this Sarah. Just this morning, Karyn didn't want anything to do with her. She thought they should change her back to the way she was, that even if the other Sarah was a bitch, she didn't deserve to be erased from existence because of her wish. It only took a meal with the new Sarah to make her reconsider, and now, she didn't know what to do...
