It wasn't that drastic of a change. Riley was a middle-aged white male, just like Dennis. His hair was a little shorter and slicked back, and he had rapidly grew stubble. He was also an inch and a half taller, so Dennis had to put his hand on his desk and stablize himself. When the transformation was complete, Dennis observed the changes and sneered at his new face in the mirror. It was 4:30 PM and he had to remain that way for 12 hours, which meant at least one night as Riley. Dennis remembered the feeling of sleeping as someone else - it wasn't too pleasant, constantly tossing and turning.
The phone rang. Hesitant, Dennis picked it up and said in Riley's voice, "Hello?"
"Hello, is Dennis in?" It was his wife, that fat cow. Dennis regretted marrying his high school sweetheart, who had really let herself go, and couldn't make a decent meal or keep a decent house to save her life. She was beautiful once, but those days were gone.
"He's out on a case right now," he lied.
"Well tell him Mona called, okay? Thanks. Bye."
Yeah, thanks for nothing, he thought. Still, he was comforted by the fact that she had no idea she really was speaking to her husband.
Now that he WAS Riley Merchant, Dennis got started. He drove over to Riley's place, letting himself in with the key Laura left under the Welcome mat. He began snooping around for clues.
