Nothing seemed at all out of place to Jon. As far as she could tell, she was the same as she'd always been: same bird's wings where the other girls had arms, same feathered lower body, tail, and clawed feet, same softly curved figure and moderate-sized breasts, perpetually uncovered, like the rest of her body, because normal clothes wouldn't fit her, same delicate feminine face framed by long black hair, contrasting strikingly with her snow-white feathers and smooth creamy skin...
"I don't get it, Karyn," she said, in the same soft alto she'd had since puberty. "Nothing's changed. Are you sure you were holding the rock when you made your wish?"
Karyn stared at her. "My God," she said, "you really can't tell, can you?"
Jon shook her head. "What did you change?" she asked. "Everything seems the same as it was before."
"Well," Karyn said, "it looks like the stone really does change the memories of everybody who doesn't hear a wish. Okay, I wish that Jon's mind and memories were back to the way they were before the previous wish."
All of a sudden Jon stared down at her body and let out a shriek. "Oh my GOD, Karyn!" she screamed. "Why did you make me a harpy!? Now I'm gonna be stuck this way for the rest of my life!"
Karyn shook her head. "Chill!" she urged her friend. "It's only a week, okay? I'm not stupid enough to forget a time limit!"
That news calmed Jon down considerably, but she was still pretty agitated. "A week?" she said. "You mean I have to spend a week as...this?"
Karyn nodded. "I guess in fairness I should let you change me for a week, too," she said, placing the stone down where Jon could grab it. "Just don't try to escalate things, okay? We don't want a repeat of that Calvin & Hobbes storyline with the transmogrifier gun."
