And Jon did exactly what Zoe had suggested. She waited for her room to change back to a boy's.
Only, it didn't work that way.
Jon suddenly got very confused, and then realized (s)he did really prefer being a boy after all. She couldn't understand how she had thought that it was best to be female.
There was a knock on the door.
"Come in," said Jon.
Zoe opened the door. "I see you decided to change your room to a girl's after all," she said, looking around.
"No, I didn't! You were wrong!"
"How was I wrong?"
"Look, Zoe, there were two wishes. The first wish was for me to wear a schoolgirl outfit. It made me prefer being a girl, and it just wore off. The second wish was for me to be a girl, and it doesn't wear off."
"And...?"
"Zoe, both of those wishes affected my room, and only the first one wore off. So I'm still in a girl's room. And I'm still a girl. And our sister Marie is now a boy named Mikey. You must think it's really funny, don't you?"
"The only part of that I have anything to do with," said Zoe, "is Mikey. I didn't change you into a girl. That was Karyn's and your fault. And you have your stone. Surely you can figure something out."
"Yeah. I can't just change back to a boy, but I wish...."
