He reached into his bag and pulled out a small mirror. "Yes, so?"
"You...your hair?"
"What about it?"
It was shoulder length, red, and well-tended to. She recognized it, as it was the same shade that her own and had been. And why was Jon carrying a mirror? It seemed like many people, she was noticing, were changing their appearance...mostly cleaning up.
Leonard looked well-groomed, Yuki looked fashionable, even Karyn herself had gotten new clothes.
And Jon...looked...she suddenly got it. He looked older. "Jon, how old are you?"
"Eighteen, why?"
Not only was Jon a Junior, but his birthday was late in the school year. He was only sixteen.
"That isn't right?" Jon asked, seeing her expression.
"Umm...no," Karyn said. "We need to find the stone now," she insisted. How could she worry about class at a time like this?
"How?" Jon asked, fretting still.
"Follow the changes back to the source. That escalator is new, and Kyla said something about an elevator. It's a two story building and we're on the second floor. We don't have an elevator and an escalator makes no sense."
Jon paused, thinking about it. "If this is a two story building, then where do those stairs go?" he said, gesturing to a set of stairs going up.
