Karyn met Jon in the hallway. "You are never going to..." She looked at him. "Your clothes changed."
He looked at them. "Are you sure?" He asked. They looked the same to him.
"You're dressed up."
"I have a presentation today in class," he said, pulling out a comb and combing through his hair a few times. It was starting to get a bit unruly.
"Yeah, so?"
"They do grade on appearance, you know."
"Since when?" Karyn asked. "Are you sure you're all right?"
"Fine," he said.
"Well," she wasn't so sure. "I saw that Japanese student...she was dressed normally, and...she was making out with Leonard Drullers."
Jon blinked. "They don't even know each other, do they?"
"Well, I guess they do now," Karyn said. "And then...Jay asked me out."
"Yeah, so?" Jon said.
"Jon...think about it," she said, seriously. He didn't seem to notice what was going on unless she pointed it out. That wasn't the way the stone normally worked.
He blinked again. "What's wrong with me?"
"I guess it's the magic. But...why are you noticing things? Do you think it's because you made that wish about your body? Could it have given you some kind of immunity to future wishes?"
"Then what about you?"
"Well, I made some wishes. Maybe anyone who uses the stone gets some sort of awareness of it. How should I know?" Jon asked, his voice raising an octave. He sounded stressed by the whole thing.
"Calm down," Karyn said. "We'll find the stone and whoever is using it. At least so far, everything they've done is pretty harmless."
"So far," Jon said, still fretting.
