As Karyn sat down in her next class, she couldn't shake the feeling that something else was wrong.
As she waited for everyone to settle down, someone tapped her on the shoulder. It was Jay Duncan, perhaps the school's top science nerd. He was into physics and engineering, and all sorts of hard science. She wondered what he wanted.
"Hi, Karyn," he said.
"Umm...hey, Jay. What's up?"
"I was wondering if you maybe wanted to hang out tonight," he said. He said it quite casually, as if it was no big thing. The two didn't hang out. They knew each other, but floated in different circles. And Jay wasn't exactly a social butterfly.
"Ummm..." Karyn said.
"Great," Jay said, as if she'd said yes. "I'll stop by your house at 7."
He walked away before she could say anything else, leaving her with a dumbfounded look on her face.
What will Kyla say? Karyn thought. She knew Kyla had a thing for Jay, even if Jay didn't seem to know. The problem of Jay asking her out, at least, distracted her completely from the wishing stone problem.
