"Mr. Burton? Jon, you don't have Burton's class. Don't you mean Mr. Holt?"
Jon drew a blank for a moment, then blinked. "That's right." He looked back at the class he just exited, then back at Karyn. "I didn't even notice!"
"So, so far, whoever is using the stone is giving me better clothes and making you go to the wrong class," Karyn said. "This is pretty goofy wishing. What's the point of it all? And why are we aware of it?
"Wrong class?" Jon said. "But...how did I hand in homework?" He frowned. "What if..someone wished for something, and this is all side effects?"
"What do you mean?" Karyn asked.
"Well, let's say I wish for an apple. It appears in my hand. But everyone who didn't hear the wish thinks I had the apple. Why do they think that? If I grabbed the apple at home, that means there's one less apple at home, right?"
"I guess," Karyn said.
"I'm not sure why we are noticing, but I'm just saying that maybe they didn't wish for what we noticed, but that's just part of what is different because of their wish. Maybe we're noticing because we possessed the stone before."
Karyn nodded. That made sense. "I guess we need to keep our eyes open."
"I'll see you after film class," Jon said, heading off.
Karyn was halfway down the hall before she stopped, and turned around. But Jon was already lost in the crowd. Jon didn't take film class. Wait, did the school even have a film class?
