For the umpteenth time, Sarah sighed.
Karyn rolled her eyes, careful not to move anything else while her second cousin applied some subtle eye-shadow to her lids. "What is it, now?"
"I just can't understand why you let yourself go like this. Couldn't you at least bother with some lip gloss?" Sarah unconsciously pursed her own lips as she inspected her work. "Then again, knowing you, I shouldn't be surprised."
"Hey, I do not let myself go," Karyn retorted. Hearing her voice echo through the empty bathroom, she quickly lowered her volume. "I'm just comfortable being plain ol' me."
Neither girl noticed as Karyn's eyebrows thinned a bit, becoming nicely trimmed and adding to her uncanny resemblance to her relative. By now, they shared the same facial structure, and a small butterfly tattoo had materialized on Karyn's right hip, matching the one on Sarah's own left hip.
"Besides, it's not like I don't do anything with my looks. I just like being low-maintenance. That's all. And I just figured I could wait until I had a good reason to pretty myself up."
"Like now." Sarah smirked as the other blonde blushed. "So, who's the poor sap you're reeling in?"
This time, it was Karyn's turn to smile. "Wouldn't you like to know."
Her cousin shook her head. "You're right. I wouldn't. Just try not to scrape the bottom of the barrel too much, okay? You've got a nice face and a great body. Don't waste it all on some loser."
The other girl blinked in surprise. Sarah was complimenting her? Even as this revelation sank in, her figure gained some improvements, finally putting both blondes on equal ground appearance-wise. "I might say the same thing to you, Sarah. I don't know why you throw yourself at the school's biggest jerks. You deserve someone who appreciates you as a person, not some trophy for their collection."
Sarah glared. "If you weren't my twin sister, I'd so make you pay for that."
"I'm just trying to watch out for you, sis. It hurts me seeing how they treat you."
"They treat me just fine. At least, I'm not shoved into a corner by myself all the time. You think I like having to watch my sister treated like some loner? You don't like being ignored any more than I do, I can tell."
This time, it was Karyn's turn to sigh. She gave her sibling a sad glance. "Why do we have to be so different?"
Sarah's mouth tightened as she worked in silence. Karyn could almost have sworn she saw the glimmer of tears in the other girl's eyes. The moment passed, however, when Sarah stepped back. "That's all I have time for right now. We need to get to class. I can do your hair at lunchtime."
Karyn studied her reflection in the mirror. Despite their differences in personality, there was no denying that she and her twin were equally hot. "Thanks, Sarah. And sorry. I shouldn't be so critical. I still love you, y'know."
"What are sisters for?" Sarah shrugged before giving her a quick hug. "I'll see you later. And good luck."
And let's lose the glasses, Ronald thought, concentrating a bit as he walked beside the nerd towards his next class.
The boy's spectacles vanished, revealing his intense green eyes to the world. Those eyes glittered with energy as Leonard chattered on about his games. All hints of shyness had, for now, been supplanted by sheer enthusiasm. As he talked, his pants shrank even more, giving all a nice view of his long, shapely legs. Then, the crotch split as the garment flowed into the skirt of a casual black minidress. A denim jacket formed over the top, its bottom hanging almost down to the skirt's hem.
"So," Ronald spoke up. "That all sounds really elaborate. It must be nice that your dad pays for it all."
Leonard nodded. "It is. His engineering job pays really well, and he's always encouraged me to pursue my interests."
It occurred to Ronald that Leonard's new clothes, as well as his backpack, were of high quality. He couldn't recall whether the old Leonard had been rich, but that certainly seemed to be the case after these changes.
As hot as he's turning out, let's bring back the nerd a little.
Tiny earrings shaped like joysticks materialized dangling from Leonard's lobes. When his shoes shifted into heeled, open-toe sandals, the pattern decorating its surface resembled different colored Tetris blocks. It happened to match a bracelet now adorning his left wrist.
Unexpectedly, a few streaks of various bright colors went through his side-swept bangs, keeping up with the multicolored theme.
Hm, that's a surprise. But I'll keep it.
By now, they had stopped in front of the door to Leonard's next class. "Maybe, I could show you my collection sometime," Leonard said before catching himself. "That is, uh, if you really want."
"Sounds fun," Ronald responded.
"Great!" Leonard's enthusiasm returned. "During the weekend probably. I'll call you."
"Do you need my number?"
"Oh, I have it."
Ronald blinked. When did he
Suddenly, a girl from inside the classroom waved and pointed at the seat beside her, calling, "Hallie! Over here!"
Hallie? Apparently, the former Leonard had finished her transition without Ronald's notice. With an inward shrug, he smiled. "Looks like your friend's waiting. I'll see you later sometime, okay?"
The new girl nodded. "Yeah, later."
As the colorful redhead went into the class, Ronald checked his watch. "Whoops, gotta hurry!" Rushing off, he wondered who he would be changing next.
