"Let me get back to you about that," answered Jess. "For now, our pizza's getting cold."

Looking down at their ignored food, Kevin chuckled. "Oh, right."

As they ate, Jess glanced at her boyfriend, her first, and hopefully last, boyfriend. It felt so incredibly strange. As Jon, she would never have dreamt that she would ever become a girl, let alone someone's girlfriend. Still, she had to admit that she could have done worse. Letting her eyes roam over Kevin, she admired his gentle face, his dependable presence, those strong arms she could melt into for comfort.

Suddenly, she blinked and shook her head. Whoah there, Jess, she scolded herself. Don't go flinging yourself at him before you've even gotten to know him better. The wish must be messing with your brain. First things first.

"Kevin, how did you happen to find the stone?"

The boy paused to swallow his bite of pizza. "I just tripped over it by accident. It was just there on the floor, and I stepped on it and nearly twisted an ankle. At that point, I wished I knew what jerk left a stone in the middle of the hall. Imagine my surprise when it told me the jerk was you." The boy laughed as Jess stood up and swatted him on the shoulder. Fortunately, they had taken an enclosed booth in a far corner of the pizzeria, out of sight of most of the other diners.

When she returned to her seat, Jess grew more serious. "So you knew it was me from the start. Was that why you picked me to be your girlfriend? Is this some kind of cruel punishment?" Despite her words, she did not seem angry. If anything, she looked a bit forlorn at the idea.

Kevin quickly reached out and took her hand. "No, that's not it at all. I picked you because you had the exact personality I liked. It was just coincidence that you were also the one who dropped the stone." He sighed. "Look, I'll tell you what happened."
