Jess didn't change her clothes; they were just meeting after school for pizza. She did try to put on some perfume, though she wasn't very experienced at it despite the new reality indicating otherwise.

She and Kevin arrived at the pizza place at a close enough time that they could both see each other walking towards it. "Hi" said Jess.

"Hi," replied Kevin. "Er... well, we're here. I'm sorry about the wish but I really wanted to go out with you and I wasn't trying to manipulate you."

"But you did," replied Jess. "You used the stone. And it's my stone!"

"Jess, if I was trying to be a creep I'd just wish you're in love with me. I just want someone to like me first for being me and we can go from there."

"I really do like you," said Jess as they entered and went up to the counter. "But it's so confusing." Jess leaned close so as not to scream in public about things that would sound insane to bystanders. "I'm not attracted to guys. Or I shouldn't be. You make me feel different."

"Look at it this way. You don't have the hots for Steve Farber or Biff or someone like that who really is a creep, do you?"

"No..."

"And you're still you, right? You don't suddenly want to wear dresses and makeup, right?"

"Kevin, look around you. Do you see a lot of dresses on any girls here? That has nothing to do with it. Just imagine it was you. Would you like it if you were turned into a girl against your will? If you couldn't think of your old name as your name and you suddenly had to wear makeup and bras and date guys, and people expected you to give birth one day? I'm still me. I may like you but all that other girl stuff I'm still not into."

"I think you're attractive even without the makeup, and I didn't force you to date me."

"I know you didn't, Kevin," said Jess. "It's just all so overwhelming. Even if you made me attracted to you, I still really feel that way." She looked ready to cry, but didn't. Kevin decided to comfort her, as best he knew how, and put his arms around her as if Jess was accustomed to being comforted that way. He half-expected Jess to sock him, but it never happened. In fact, she seemed happy to be in his arms, even if she wouldn't say it.

"Hey, you!" said the cashier.

"Sorry," replied Kevin. He let go of Jess, saying "It's okay, I'll be there for you." Then he ordered a slice of cheese for her, pepperoni for himself, and some drink cups. "Come on," he said as they waited. "We're supposed to be enjoying ourselves."

"O-- okay," replied Jess. "You know it's funny. You may be the one who changed me but since you know who I used to be and nobody else really does, you know me the best of all."

Kevin filled a cup of Coke from the machine and handed the other cup to Jess. "You really do like me, and I like you," he said. "I know we didn't start off the best way, but why not be my girlfriend?"

They sat down with their pizza and sodas. Kevin let Jess think of her reply. Finally, she answered. "About being your girlfriend. I came here for something. If you want to be nice to me, here's a deal. If you give me the stone back I'll-- I'll be your girlfriend after all." She blushed a bit. "Not for forever, but I won't run away after a day just because I have the stone back, either. Is that fair? We each get what we want."

"Are you sure?" asked Kevin. "Sure you want to be my girlfriend?"

"I want the stone back, and you know what, Kevin? You should stop doing that. If it was me I'd have said it's a deal in five seconds. I like that you mean well and you're really trying hard to show that just because you turned me into a girl doesn't mean you're dangerous. But you don't need to ask if I'm sure for something like that."

Kevin nodded. "Yeah, I see what you mean. I have one thing to ask you, though, Jess, and this is important."

"Mm-hmm?"

"Jess, you're not planning to use the stone to change back to a guy, are you?"

"No, I'm not, because I can't. It's impossible to reverse wishes." Kevin watched her and Jess began again. "Well... okay, I really hate lying to you, Kevin. You can't reverse wishes but you can alter them. I could wish that I'm a girl because I fell into a cursed spring or because I change into one every full moon or something like that."

"You said you'd be my girlfriend. You can't if you're not a girl. I wish that you won't do anything to become male even part of the time unless we agree on it." Then he pushed the stone into Jess's hand.

Jess smiled. "You know that wish is really dangerous, Kevin."

"Why, because you could use a wish to force me to agree? You trusted me, at least enough to be my girlfriend. I decided I'd trust you for a little bit. I hope we'd discuss something like that first anyway. We do need to get to know each other better, even if you talk about your life as a guy, And if there's any way I can make up to you for all the trouble I caused by changing you, I mean aside from changing you back, I'm all ears."

Jess wasn't sure how to answer that....
