"Athena? Is that you? Like, what are you wearing?" a girl suddenly asked. The three of them turned and saw two friends of Sarah McMillan: Tiffany Sanders and Melissa Smith. Melissa was the one who spoke.
"You better not let Steve see you like that. He'll never sleep with you again," Tiffany said.
"What are you talking about?" Athena asked. "Steve who?"
"Steve Farber, you dimwit," Melissa said. "Gawd, you can be such a ditz sometimes." She grabbed Athena's arm (hesitantly at first, as if touching her gothic dress were incredibly disgusting) then pulled her with her. "Come on. I've got some spare clothes that you can use."
"Let go of me!" Athena yelled, pulling away from her. She turned back to Jon and Karyn. "Jon, help me out here."
"Why? I'm not friends with you." Jon turned towards Karyn. "Come on, Karyn. Let's go find ... uh ... that thing." He didn't want to say the stone, especially in front of Sarah's best friends Tiffany, Melissa, and Athena.
Karyn nodded, then the two of them walked away.
"Hey, where are you going? I thought you wanted my help to ..."
"Forget about those losers, Athena. They're not worth talking to. Now, come on. We have to get you changed before someone else sees you like this," Melissa said. "Ugh. What could have possessed you to dress like a freak?"
