"Yeah," said Jonnie. "You may be right. So I need to be careful. I just wish that this was a co-ed school and then you and I would have boyfriends to protect us."
"Jonnie!" Karyn heard the wish and turned to her best friend, waiting for the flash of bright light that seemed to always come after a wish... but nothing happening.
Jonnie was also freaking a little, "Oh gods Karyn, I didn't even think... It just came out. Gods I have to be so much more careful with this thing." She looked around and everything seemed the same, all the girls were still girls, and there were no boys anywhere. In fact that seemed to make her think a moment. She looked to the stone again, and then up towards Karyn.
Both Karyn and her said at the same time, "Why didn't that work?"
Jonnie looked at the stone, all over it, it seemed the same rock she had had before hand, but why hadn't it work.
"Could that be the incorrect rock? I mean... could it be broken?" Karyn asked, as she pulled Jonnie out of the middle of the corridor and into the girls toilets.
Jonnie nodded, as she allowed Karyn to lead her away. She was still really worried they had the wrong rock, and as they entered the girl's bathroom she looked up and watched as Karyn looked underneath all the toilet stalls to make sure no one was around.
"Okay all clear... what is up with the rock?" Karyn asked walking back over to the sink where Jonnie was standing.
"I'm not sure, and I won't know unless we test it out. Um, we need to make a small wish." Jonnie stated, and could see right away that Karyn wasn't happy with the idea.
Karyn was about to disagree but seemed to stop and think. Finally she nodded, "Okay wish that you are wearing that lovely pink minidress from your wardrobe, but that you wouldn't change, or move from this location, and that your clothing would be the only thing that is swapped."
Jonnie raised a cute eyebrow to her and chuckled, "How about if I just do something like an apple?"
Karyn frowned and pouted a little, "Okay, be boring then." She then smiled and nodded, "Just make sure you qualify things, we don't really know just how the rock works. Maybe it will turn you into a apple tree?"
Nodded, Jonnie looked at the rock. They really hadn't had much luck with the rock so far, so yes, she had to be very careful. "Okay then. I wish that a apple would appear in front of the sink before me, and that no other change was done to myself or Karyn or anyone else we know to allow that apple to appear before me."
Taking a deep breath, Jonnie waiting . . . nothing happened for a moment, then she felt compelled to close her eyes and suddenly there was a small flash of light. WHen she opened her eyes again the apple was on the sink, just like she asked.
She looked to Karyn who smiled, "See the rock is working and it is the correct rock." Then Karyn's face went pale a moment... two plus two suddenly added up to four and before she could open her mouth to state what had suddenly come to her, Jonnie already nodded and answered.
"... which means something has happened to the school, and a wish has been made. And that silly with I made would have altered that. We need to find out what happened." Jonnie picked up the apple and took a bite of it, "And I have a horrible feeling we won't like the answer when we find out."
