"Excuse me, Mrs. Robertson," said Jonnie. "Did you find that? I dropped it."
"This rock?" replied the teacher.
"Yes, that rock. It's a long story, but I dropped it in the hall and I was looking all over...."
She hesitated, but eventually gave it back. "Thanks!" said Jonnie.
"That was easy," said Karyn. "But do you think she could have made a wish on it?"
"I doubt it," replied Jonnie, straightening her dress. "She only had it for a few minutes."
Then they passed Sarah McMillan with two of her allies, Stephanie Farber and Michelle Matthews. They were formerly Steve 'The Stud' and Mike 'Moose', but after Mrs. Robertson's accidental wish, Karyn and Jonnie only knew them as lesbian lovers who were part of Sarah's gang.
"Ha, ha," said Stephanie, taunting Karyn. "Are you going to go out with Jonnie yet? She won't, you know."
"We're just friends!" replied Karyn. "I'm straight. I couldn't go out with her."
"Stop that, Stephanie" said Sarah. "If you cause trouble here, I might get blamed." But then as Jonnie and Karyn walked away, Sarah raised her middle finger at them.
Jonnie did notice. "Grr," she said. "Why do they always hate us? Maybe I should wish something for them."
"I don't know," said Karyn. "They argue, they keep each other in check. Suppose you wish away Stephanie and Michelle--I bet Sarah ould cause a lot more trouble with a gang full of pushovers."
"Yeah," said Jonnie. "You may be right. So I need to be careful. I just wish...."
