"Give him a wish? No reason not to be generous. You have as many as you want, after all."
"I don't know," said Jen. "I hate to admit it, Karyn, but the whole wish thing scares me a little bit. I wonder what anyone else might do with it... I know I let you have some wishes, but...."
"Wait!" said Joseph. "What's all this about wishes?"
Karyn whispered to Jen, "Maybe you can give him some wishes, but do it safely. You don't need to lend out the magic rock for that."
"Okay," said Jen. I wish that Joseph won't hear this wish or the next wish and will forget anything he heard up to now about magic stones and my wishes. Next, I wish that when I tell Joseph I can make wishes, he'll believe me but won't question how I can do so or connect it with the stone."
"Huh?" said Joseph. "Jen, you... that's funny, I can't remember what I was going to say."
"Well, Joseph," said Jen. "I can give you three wishes."
"Wow, really?" Jen grinned. Joseph didn't even question Jen's ability to do so.
"Yeah, really. Just tell me the wishes and I'll make them. I need to be very careful with these things..."
"Okay, I wish for a million dollars."
"Sorry, I can't do that. I could get you some money but people would wonder where it came from, you'll get audited by the IRS, maybe arrested for bank fraud. I wish you have a thousand dollars."
Suddenly, Joseph's pockets bulged. "Wow!" he said. "Thanks! So I get two more? Okay, here's my second wish...."
