Jon met up with Karyn at her house later that evening.

"Hey Jon, what's up?" Karyn asked.

"Not much. So, what do you wanna do?"

"I dunno. I was thinking of ordering pizza, but it looks like you've already had your fill," Karyn said, pointing to a miniscule red tomato sauce stain on the front of his shirt. Jon admired Karyn's observant nature, but thought it sometimes bordered on the bizarre."

"You know, Karyn, sometimes I think you'd be the only one to notice even the subtlest changes in the very fabric of reality." Karyn thought this was a rather odd thing to say, and even Jon felt kind of odd making that kind of observation (However, little do they know, thanks to Jon's mom's wish, everything Jon says becomes truth. And now with everything that changes, Karyn would be the only one to notice. Such is the nature of plot-advancing contrivances. Hey, it's the best I could come up with. Now back to the episode already in progress.

"You're a real nutjob, you know that, right?" Karyn asked.

"Thanks," was all Jon could say in return.

"Hey, did you remember to bring back that book I lent to you?"

"What? Oh, yeah. I gave that back to you yesterday, remember?" he lied.

"No, I think I would remember."

"I swear I did. Go up to your room and check, if you don't believe me." And the two of them did just that. And sure enough, there on the shelf, was the book in question.

"See," Jon said.

"No way. That's a big book. I would have noticed if it was back. Did you make a wish or something?"

"No, I haven't touched the rock all day. You know how dangerous it is."

"Wait a sec. Something weird is going on." She picked up a blue pen from her desk. "What color is this pen?" she asked.

"It's blue, duh."

"Tell me it's red."

"What?"

"Say the pen is red."

"Okay, that pen is red." Instantly the pen changed from blue to red. "Okay, so what's the point of showing me a red pen?"

"Don't you see?" Karyn said. "You told a lie, but that lie became the truth. I think somebody made a wish for you to tell the truth, but it didn't exactly work the right way."

"Are you delusional or something?" Jon said, seeming a bit frustrated. "The stone's been safe in my room all day. I gave you the book yesterday, and that pen has always been red."

"It's true Jon, but for some reason you're not noticing the changes. We have to get the stone and try to fix it."

"Yeah right," Jon said, "And I'm Mariah Carey"
