As Mrs. Jennings watched the two girls head down the sidewalk, she said, "I wish Justin and Ryan would ask Jennifer and Karyn to the prom." She well remembered the fun she and Kathy had had at their proms. Double dating with your best girlfriend, and a hot guy, was really fun. 'Oh, yeah, it was fun.'
Mrs. Jennings put the rock back in Jennifer's room and set about fixing herself a light dinner.
After cleaning up Mrs. Jennifer went to watch some TV. She had barely sat down when the phone rang.
"Hello." Mrs. Jennings said.
"My I speak with Jennifer." A male voice said. He then added, "My name is Justin. I know Jennifer from school."
"She isn't here right now."
"Will she be home soon?" He asked, sounding a bit concerned.
"Jennifer and Karyn are working tonight. They won't be home until very late."
"Oh." He said, sounding a bit unhappy.
Feeling sorry for him, Mrs. Jennings added, "Jennifer works most nights, but I am sure she would like to speak to you. Why don't you talk to her in school tomorrow." She then added, "I know she will want to talk to you, as she and Karyn were talking about you and a boy named Ryan."
"Ryan is my best friend. He likes Karyn."
"And Karyn is Jennifer's best friend." Mrs. Jennings said.
"Yes ma'am." Justin said, taking the hint. "Ryan and I will speak with Karyn and Jennifer tomorrow."
After hanging up, Mrs. Jennings allowed herself a brief feeling of success. 'It looks like Jennifer and Karyn will soon have dates for the prom.'
