"I wish J. J. was willing to pretend to be a girl, just to see how many people we could fool."
J. J., sensing what Karyn was doing, tried to stop her, but the wish was out before he could do anything.
As he settled back down, Karyn asked once more, "J. J., are you willing to pretend to be a girl, so we can be like best girlfriends, and do slumber party stuff?"
Why a rapidly shrinking part of him want to say, "No.", J. J. answered an enthusiastic, "Yes."
"I knew you would. Having a best girlfriend who is a girl is better than having one who is a boy."
J. J. looked up at Karyn with a bit of a look of shock on his face and he asked, "You saying you aren't really a girl?" Then both girls broke into giggles.
Karyn quickly found that even though she had thought of the boy J. J. as her best friend, J. J. the girl was an even better friend. Not only did the two talk about everything that teenage girls talk about, but they could (and did) try on each other's clothes and J. J. ended up with his finger and toe nails painted a bright shade of red. J. J. and Karyn were almost exactly the same size; only J. J.'s undeveloped breasts separated them.
Some time after midnight, J. J.'s mother stuck her head into the room. She saw the two acting just like she remembered she and her best friend acting when they were that age. With that thought in mind, she said, "Girls. It is late. Time to warp things up and turn out the light, so we can all get some sleep."
The pair responded with a pair of "Yes Mother"'s, before breaking into giggles.
