"I wish Karyn and I could spend more time together. She needs me right now."
J.J. shrugged his narrow shoulders and left his home to meet Karyn at the mall. When he first saw her he noticed the overly large smile on her face.
"Wow, Karyn. Who lit you up today?"
"What do you mean", Karyn asked, looking at J.J. with her favorite wide-eyed, innocent expression?
"From the way you were talking last night, I figured I'd be spending most of the day picking up the pieces of your broken heart. Now, you look like you just won the lottery."
"Well, my parents have to travel for a week, so my mom asked your mom if I could stay with you. Your mom said yes, so it looks likw we're roomies for a week."
"Doesn't that seem just bit odd to you? I mean, after all, we are best friends, but you're a girl and I'm a boy and......."
"I am a girl and you, I guess, are technically a boy, but they know we are best friends and that nothing is going to happen, We've discussed this before J.J. You are, like, my best girlfriend, I love you and all, but I don't think of you as a boy. You've always said you were alright with that. Don't go weirding out on me now."
When Karyn said they'd discussed it all before, the memory instantly implanted itself in his mind. They were, would aways be, forever, just best friends.
"OK, Karyn, let's do some serious shopping. Nothing fits anymore, so I need some clothes for school Monday. I think I'm putting on weight."
