The burly man made as if to move towards Suzie, but she was already moving. Away. With one final glance in my direction, she left the tavern. The man watched her leave, and then scooped me up in his arms. It was alarming, just how little effort it took him to lift me onto one of his shoulders. I was still getting used to everything in the world seeming twice as big - this was another chilling reminder of just how tiny and helpless I had become.
At least I seemed to have a fairly formidable champion, I mused, while "dad" trudged back to his... or "our?" inn room.
While I was with him, I seemed to have very little control over my actions. I quickly discovered that while I COULD say things on my own, anything that the computer decided was "out of character", I either couldn't say, or seemed to pass through some kind of filter before I said them.
So "put me down, please" came out just fine, even if my new voice did sound a bit unfamiliar to me.
"Hey, can we get some food soon?" came through as "Daddy, I'm hungry!"
Things like "Hey, just so you know, I'm another player, and I seem to be stuck playing your daughter" simply weren't allowed to be said, apparently. When I tried, I found myself either unable to speak, or dissolving into girlish giggles after the first word or two. "Dad" took no real notice.
I found my actions to be similarly circumscribed. I could walk around the inn room, but I couldn't make myself leave it. I quickly learned that if I got too close to the handmade dolls in a corner, I would get stuck playing with them for 10-15 minutes. Eventually, the game decided that it was time for me to go to bed, and I went to sleep.
