Kevin turned to Jean. "Those weapons of mass destruction you sent away to another galaxy...they landed on an inhabited planet. Over twenty million intelligent lifeforms were wiped out when they rained down on its cities. They never had a chance."
Jean looked stunned. "I didn't mean it...I just wanted those weapons to be as far away from Earth as possible." A thought came to her. "Wait, how did you know?" She looked at Kevin, and then at Sarah. And then at Sarah's purse.
Before Sarah could do anything, Jean snatched away her purse at super-speed. She reached into the purse, and grabbed the wishing stone. "Aha! I knew something was up! I thought I'd destroyed this. I guess it's harder to destroy than I thought. This time, I'm not taking any chances."
And with that, Jean threw the stone up into the air. It vanished before it hit the ceiling.
"Where did it go?" asked Kevin.
"I just sent it hurtling into space millions of light years away. Even I don't know where it is and where it's going. That'll be the last we see of that." Jean said, with satisfaction.
Sarah realized that she may have just made a grave mistake in using the wishing stone this soon. If she hadn't made any wishes, she might have been able to keep it till she needed it. Maybe she could have even given it to Kevin were she and Nicole able to win him over to their side. But now it was gone, lost somewhere in a seemingly infinite, possibly constantly expanding universe. She and Nicole were on their own, with only the new powers the stone had given them to help them. Would they be enough?
Jean turned to Sarah. "It's clear that I misjudged you. A lot of us misjudged you. My mission to save the world from itself is far from over, and I can't have you getting in the way." And with that...
