It was hard for Jon to really analyze the feeling, but somehow he felt comfortable being with Joseph like this. Jon briefly wondered if it meant he was gay, but he didn't really care, not for another week, anyway. Or maybe he wasn't gay. What exactly did the word mean when people's sex could change with a wish on a stone, anyway?
Then, thinking of the stone, Jon realized he didn't feel it in his pocket. It was missing. Joseph could tell the panic in his eyes and asked, "Jon, what's the matter? I thought you liked action movies. You're not still thinking you're pregnant, are you?"
"It's not the movie," said Jon, "and it's certainly not that. There's a... well, a rock that's very important. I dropped it a minute ago, it should be here in the couch."
"You don't have to do anything," said Joseph. "I'll find your rock for you, whatever it is." He kissed Jon and then got up so he could feel around between the cushions. Soon he found the stone.
"See?" said Joseph. "This is right, isn't it?"
"Sure it is, could I please have it back?"
Joseph looked the stone over. "It's just a rock." He held as high as he could, just an inch or so out of Jon's reach, and teased him. "Kiss me back, and I'll give you the rock." But when Jon started getting upset he immediately handed the rock back.
Jon kissed Joseph and then Joseph said "Thaaaat's better." Jon snuggled up with Joseph--at which point the rock fell out of the skirt pocket again, rolled off the couch, and onto the floor. Feeling around his pocket, Jon realized that there was a hole in it. It must have just now gotten big enough for the stone to fall out.
Joseph, moving his feet slightly, touched a bare foot against the rock. "You know, Jon," he said, "I wish...."
