"After school today, why don't we go to my place and watch some movies? Just the two of us. My parents aren't going to be back from their trip until tomorrow night anyway."
"Sure," said Jon automatically. "I'd like that."
"Great!" said Joseph. "I'll see you around, dude."
Well, he couldn't exactly call Jon 'babe' if only his lower half was female. Or rather, he could, but given what Karyn had said about Jon registering as a guy, he had probably asked people to use male words for him.
After a day that seemed strange, but thanks to the wish not too disquieting, Jon called up his mother to explain he was at a friend's house, and went over to see Joseph. He knocked on the door. Joseph let him in and they sat down on the living room couch.
"Are you still feeling down?" asked Joseph.
"Naah," replied Jon. "And it wasn't about that anyhow. It doesn't matter, at least not for the next week. But I'm still glad we could have some time together."
Jon wondered if he should tell Joseph about the stone. Maybe he should; Joseph was his boyfriend, after all. But he wasn't sure how Joseph would react, and finally he decided not to.
But he did reach into his pocket and whispered a wish to himself. He needed to find out just what this new reality was like. "I wish that whatever I ask Joseph tonight, he won't think the question strange."
"Hm, did you say something?" asked Joseph.
"Oh, it's nothing. Say, Joseph, I've been wondering. Do you think I really could be pregnant?"
"It's always possible, Jon. You might have a guy's face and a guy's chest and arms, and a guy's voice, but you certainly have the parts for me to get you pregnant. But I told you, it's probably just irregular periods."
"Joseph, am I more of a girlfriend or a boyfriend to you?"
"Oh, it's hard to say. When I look at you it's like I'm looking at a boy, someone like myself, and you think and act and sound like a boy, but then I look down at your sexy legs... and it may just be half your body that's a girl but it's the half which lets you really be a girl when I need you."
"So, uh, how did we start dating?"
"I just asked you. I was so scared since you kept calling yourself a guy and I didn't know if having girl parts meant you would be willing to go out with a guy, but you said 'yes'."
"I see. I think," said Jon. Joseph opened the DVD player and put the movie in, then sat down on the couch. Jon sat down to watch it. It was nothing scary, but he found himself cuddling up with Joseph anyway....
