Karyn hugged Jon. "That's good" she said.
"Yeah" he replied. "Suddenly I'm not so worried about being who I am right now. If I can't do anything about I may as well enjoy my life."
"Hey" said the voice of a classmate, which Jon recognized as being his friend Joseph. "If you hug Jon too hard I might get jealous."
Karyn made a face at Joseph, to which the boy replied "Just kidding." But then she let go of Jon and let Joseph hug him instead.
Joseph, thought Jon, my boyfriend? This is strange. Though somehow Jon didn't really mind it at all. "Do you really like me like this?" said Jon.
"Of course I do. Look, I know my parents don't like us going out together but we've been together for almost a year, and they haven't tried to stop us. You don't need to worry.
"No, I mean my body."
"What. just because your periods have stopped? I'm sure you're not the only person with an irregular period. It doesn't mean you're pregnant."
"Joseph," said Karyn, "Jon's feeling a little moody and he was wondering what it would be like if he was all boy or all girl."
"Oh." Joseph laughed. "You're fine just the way you are! And I'm glad you understand guys a lot more than someone who's a girl above the waist does. I know what'll cheer you up. After school today, why don't we...."
