Scott was taking in the view of her school, debating with herself on what to do first. Normally she would hang out with Dennis though the new alien girl didn’t see him anywhere. She floated in her jeans and light T-shirt her arms exposed to the gentle breeze of her motion. Her pink hair trailed behind her seeming to be one of the parts of her that didn’t exactly ‘float’ like the rest of her body- not to mention some other parts of her which was a mixed blessing the more she thought of it. Everything around her was just the same… she was different.

She would always be different.

She felt kind of numb still. She knew her mother meant well and there was nothing she could do about it- nothing either of them could do. Scott could cry, she could get mad, she could shout and swear but none of that would do a single thing towards changing her back to normal. This for all intents and purpose was the new norm and if she didn’t accept it, she might end up going nuts. Then again wasn’t this already nuts? “I might as well get ready for class- what the-”

“Its the alien girl!” A guy suddenly shouted. “She’s floating! She’s really floating!”

Suddenly Scott was besieged by a crowd. There was a mix of boys and girls who all seemed to want to talk to her. Scott looked bewildered at the sea of faces all treating her like she was some celebrity.

“What’s your name? What’s your planet like? Why is your hair pink?”

“Uh- my name? Well-” She didn’t know what to do. Her antenna’s dropped slightly in the shock and confusion. “Uh- I got to go!”

Scott Suddenly launched herself up higher, floating towards the windows of the school. Pretty much every student could see her and were stunned into silence at the display of physics being violated with a mix of jealousy and envy.

“Popular girl isn’t she,” Greg grinned again. He continued to watch the crowd as the girl suddenly flew upwards into the air towards them. It was close enough that Greg could see her face.. “Wow.. she’s.. hot!” He was almost at a loss for words. “How can you possibly know someone so out of your league?”

Dennis was so angry at Greg. Who the heck did he think he was always treating him like he couldn’t ever get with a girl! He knew ‘this’ girl. “It’s- it’s Scott!” He said blurted out. The large boy suddenly felt himself blush.

“Scott?” Greg blinked. “What?” He was sure he didn’t hear that right. “You mean that other guy you hang out with?”

“Yes!” Dennis clenched his hands into fists.

“So… does that mean he’s dressing in drag and you and him...”

“No!” Dennis groaned. “I mean- the thing is she- she’s changed. The aliens changed her into a girl!”

Greg wasn’t sure if to believe what Dennis was saying or not. It sounded really implausible. However he didn’t think Dennis would lie and… why would he make up such a weird story? Still he could mess with him some more. “So.. the aliens turned your friend into a girl… and now you’re in love with him?”

“Yes- I mean no!” Dennis looked angrily again.

“Oh my God… you are in love,” He suddenly laughed right at him. “Hey that’s perfectly normal. Nothing weird at all about that.” Greg’s voice dripped with sarcasm. “Your friend is now a girl and you totally fall for her. Who am I to judge?”

“Sounds like you are judging quite a lot!” Dennis growled.

The door then opened and.. the alien girl- Scott came inside. She looked a little nervous, floating as she did above the air. Dennis suddenly felt ashamed that he told Greg. He wanted to keep it a secret but- but he was being teased!

“Hey Scott,” Greg grinned. “Finally got yourself a set of boobs you can play with?” He smirked.

Scott stared at Greg then at Dennis. “You told him?!”

“I- I-” Dennis gulped. “It’s just-” what could he say?

Greg however pushed on. “Oh sure, Dennis was telling me all about how he’s madly in love with you.” Greg laughed again. “He’s really glad you’re a girl.” Greg continued.

“I’m not!” Dennis shouted.

Scott wasn’t sure what the heck was going on. If Greg knew then it wouldn’t be long before other people did. Maybe she should have stuck to using another name but.. she was Scott! “I don’t want this getting weird,” The alien girl stammered. “I just want to do my studies and- are you STARING at my breasts?!”

Greg blinked. “I just wondered if they were real.” He reached out a hand.

“Stop that!” Scott frowned pushing him quite forcefully. “Why the heck did you tell him Dennis!”

Dennis looked bewildered. “He was making fun of me and said I couldn’t know any girl!”

Greg just laughed again. “You still don’t! She’s not really a girl!” He shook his head. “Well I’ll leave you love birds alone. Got cheerleaders to impress- hey why don’t you join them Scott? You could fly a banner with the best quarterback behind you.”

“Go to hell,” Scott growled.

“Just offering. Might make some money in it too,” Greg pressed on. “A cutie like you could make a great mascot. Maybe we’ll call you princess Pinky.”

“Please stop Greg,” Said Dennis. “She’s not going to do anything like that.”

“Fine fine. I got loads of cheerleaders anyway.” With that Greg walked off.

“Ugh he’s suck a dick,” Scott pressed her hands on her face. “They were all after me down there- treating me like I was some kind of celebrity. Then Greg finds out the truth about me and suddenly I’m just a freak! Can’t I just be somewhere in the middle?”

Dennis looked sideways at that. “I’m.. in the middle. I don’t exist because of that.”

“Oh don’t give me that! You exist plenty enough to cause that with Greg!” Scott rolled her eyes.

Dennis bit his lip and became quiet. “I- I’m sorry,” he said. “You’re right. Greg- the way he spoke to me, it made it sound like I didn’t exist to girls. I know I exist to you so I.. I said I knew you. I then proved it by telling who you were. I’m sorry… please I’m really sorry. You know what it’s like though?”

Scott felt her anger quieten. She did know… and she knew what Greg could be like. “It’s… okay.” she said accepting the story. “Don’t say you don’t exist okay?” Scott placed a hand on his friend’s shoulder.

Dennis gave a small half hearted smile. The brief contact with her hand… Inside… he was breaking. ‘Next to someone as pretty as her… as exotic... I’ll be swept away by the currents of new friends she will gain. Its just… inevitable.’ He was seeing the end… Greg was right- someone like him really didn’t have a chance to even be her friend.

Still for now he was there.
