Jon stood there in the bathroom stall, contemplating his new existence. It was weird to think about, but he was a guy with female reproductive organs in place of male ones. Did that make him a girl? From a medical standpoint, he supposed it did, but he really couldn't think about himself in terms of femininity. He was still a guy mentally, right? Right? Suppose that had changed as well? He didn't much like to think about it, but there was one way to check.
Zipping up his pants, Jon exited the bathroom. Out in the hall, he took a long look at some of the guys passing by. Nope, nothing. That was a relief, at least. Next, he stared at some passing girls. Yes, he definitely felt attraction there. It was creepy, though; though the feelings in his head were the same as ever, there were strange new sensations coming from his crotch, unlike anything he'd experienced before. Embarassed, he dashed back into the bathroom.
In the bathroom again, Jon stopped to think about the ramifications of this. He was still attracted to girls, that much was true. But would they ever be attracted to him? Sure, they might find his personality attractive, but that was only part of a relationship. And Jon, with his new equipment, certainly couldn't hope to consumate any relationship he might have. Even if a girl was still attracted to him after discovering the truth, they'd never be able to do anything besides mutual stimulation (was it "lesbian sex" if only one of the parties was a girl? He had no idea.) And that was even if he could get used to the idea of sexual stimulation as a medical female.
Was Jon really doomed to a lifetime of loneliness? It looked that way, but he couldn't bring himself to accept it; there had to be some way to give himself a chance at a successful relationship. He knew that he wasn't able to give himself male genitals again, but one obvious way out nagged at the back of his mind. He didn't like to think about it, but it would provide him with a chance, if he could get used to the idea. And if he couldn't, well, at least there would be girls in the same boat with him as well as guys. He decided to go with it.
Karyn, meanwhile, was worried. Jon was brooding in the mens' room, as far as she knew, but he seemed to be taking an exceptionally long time to do so. She didn't think of Jon as the sort to turn suicidal, even in the face of something as life-shattering as this, but suppose he did and she wasn't there to prevent it? She couldn't deal with that thought; she had to at least check on him. Making sure no one was watching, she slipped into the mens' room, just in time to hear Jon's voice.
"I wish," he said, "that in the womens' room there would be, and will have been for the past seventeen years, a shower which gives any girl who uses it male genitals instead of female ones."
