Jon's wish revealed that the fair date for Gabe, Pete, Eric, Stephanie, Karyn, and himself was still in place. Unfortunately, that was the full extent of the information.

A few days earlier, Karyn and Stephanie had been talking in the school hallway when Gabe stopped by. Gabe and Stephanie had dated a few times recently, and Gabe asked her if she'd like to go to the fair. Stephanie then asked Karyn, who hesitated because she didn't want to be a third wheel. That's when Gabe suggested inviting Pete, except that Pete always hung around with Eric and Brian. That made the group two girls short, so Karyn had asked about inviting Jon. Gabe thought that would be OK with the other guys provided Jon arrived as two girls and stayed that way all night.

Later, though, Brian discovered he had a chess tournament that night and couldn't go. That left the group with three normal guys, one normal girl, one girl (Karyn) who could also be two, and one guy (Jon) who could also be two girls.

Uncertain what to do, Jon tried calling Karyn's cell phone. Fortunately, the half of her that was on the bus had the phone. She answered right away.

"I was thinking about tonight's date at the fair," Jon began. "If all six of us go, there's going to be four guys and two girls, four guys and three girls, three guys and four girls, or three guys and five girls. Maybe I should just stay home. That way, you can split and the group will have three and three."

"We don't think you should worry about that," said the Karyn on the bus, speaking for both of them. If there's going to be six, or seven, or eight of us, we don't think the exact ratio matters very much. We thought about one of us staying home and doing our homework while the other was at the fair, but we don't have that much homework. The two of me working together can probably finish it in twenty minutes."

"How is your other half getting home?" Jon asked, but then he guessed the answer.

"Oh, we'll just snap back together at my location," Karyn needlessly explained.

"Well, I'm going to call Gabe and Pete and see what they have in mind. We at least have to know when and where to meet them," Jon pointed out.

"That's fine," the half of Karyn on the bus agreed. "We'll call Stefanie and Eric, then call your cell phone number to coordinate. Later, dude."

With that, the call ended and Jon split. To his surprise, though, his two girl selves were dressed in very skimpy outfits. Together, they realized, the total fabric in both of their outfits equaled what Jon had been wearing before he split. They made a mental note for Jon not to split wearing only a pair of swim trunks or worse, a Speedo.

Neither of Jon's girl selves had any pockets, but they did each have a tiny purse. Looking inside, one self found Jon's cell phone and proceeded to call Gabe. The other headed for the pay phones, where the half of Karyn that stayed at school was already dialing.
