Fortunately for Jon, since everyone had to go to their next class, Gabe couldn't talk for long. Jon was a little disturbed by the whole thing, though. Being raised as a girl and thought of one until puberty?
In the library, Jon was relieved to find Karyn, waiting as planned. They did the research they had planned, but the school library really didn't have anything useful about wishes.
"I guess we have to try again tomorrow," said Jon. "Go to a public library, or use a wish to get into a college library...."
"Why not today?" asked Karyn.
"Uhh, because we're going out today?"
"What?"
"Yeah. Me, you, and Stephanie are the girls. Gabe, Pete, and Eric are the guys. We're going to the fair."
"Really?" said Karyn. "I didn't know about that."
"I bet when the stone changed reality it also changed it so you're coming with them. They might have invited you only because I was already invited or something like that. Anyway, before we go, I have an idea. I'd like to know what you think of it first...."
"Go ahead, Jon," said Karyn. "I never wanted all of this to happen...."
"You see," said Jon as they left the library for the hall, "we don't have to take what the stone gives us when it changes reality. I can make a wish which says what I want the new reality to be." Jon opened his chemistry notebook to a page in the middle of what was otherwise the blank section, and showed it to Karyn.
Karyn read it over.
"Does it look okay?" asked Jon.
"Maybe, except for this..." replied Karyn, and made a few corrections. "And put a limit on it, say that you can change it after some period of time."
Finally, they looked over the wish and Jon sat on a bench, got out his stone, looked around to be sure nobody else was nearby, and made his wish.
"I wish that the following description, which ends when I've read it all off of this paper, will become my new reality, that I'll know enough about this new reality to live in it, that after a week I can change it, and that if I ever become a full guy again that will also change it."
Then Jon continued with the description....
