The ride over was uneventful, as I spent most of the time trying to figure out how we could fix this. Every time the car went over a bump in the road, the sway of my slight body reminded me of just how strange the situation was. Emily would apologize every once in awhile and I would reassure her that it wasn't her fault. Then I realized just what was wrong with our plan.
"Emily!" I yelled. "We can't ask Karyn!"
"Why not?"
"Because," I explained, "the stone makes people think things were always this way. If we find Karyn, she'll think I'm really an 11 year old girl who looks like your cousin used to."
"But that's terrible," said Emily. "Can't we wish that she does remember you?"
"I suppose, I replied, or... wait... I've got it! Look, Emily, I know the answer. When Karyn and me first tried using the stone, we made a wish on a tree branch--made it blue. When we tried to change it back, we couldn't, but we could change how the first wish was interpreted and make it a darker blue. I'm going to reinterpret these wishes."
"Are you sure it's safe?"
"No... but... First, I wish that when I wished that things were 'like that', that meant we're meeting as friends again, which we are anyway. Second, I wish that when I wished I was wearing the right clothes with pockets, that meant I and my clothes hadn't transformed back then, so I still had my original clothes with pockets."
Emily rubbed her eyes, almost missing a street she had to turn on, and I blinked, but then... I was sitting down in the car seat at my normal height, in my normal clothes. It was all over.
"Well," said Emily, "that wasn't that hard."
"No," I replied, "when I thought of it."
"So could you change back again?" asked Emily.
"Why would I want to do that?" I replied.
"Because I want to try out what you were talking about. You told me that when you changed, people would think it's normal. I never really got to talk to anyone with you that way. I want to see how Karyn reacts."
"I don't know," I said. I thought about it and said "Okay, but only if I know I can change back. Let me make the wish myself. I wish I was an 11 year old girl, but that that wish can be reversed."
Things shrunk and I felt an emptiness in my pants, as well as unfamiliar soft underwear.
We pulled into the library. Emily parked the car, and both of us entered. Upon entering, Emily followed me over to the study area, where we saw Karyn hunched over a stack of Biology and Darwin books. She didn't notice us until Emily spoke.
"Karyn?" Emily said quietly.
Karyn immediatly looked up, almost startled. At first she didn't recognize her old friend, but the memories quickly gushed back. "Emily! I haven't seen you in like forever. And I see you've already met Jan again...."
