Karyn soon found out the answer, when she tried to ask the nurse what was going on.

"It says his name is Jon," replied the nurse, "and he's supposed to be a normal boy. I don't know how he could possibly get like this!"

Karyn realized that that did, after all, make sense. Neither the pictures nor the "start your labor" phrase were direct wishes to transform Jon. They were wishes for magical items or powers. So people wouldn't think Jon had always been transformed. Instead, people would think Karyn already had the magical item or phrase.

And even then, she could have just gotten the item or phrase recently.

After a wish to be allowed in the back, Karyn went in to visit Jon, just in time to see Jon yelling and the head of the baby coming out. Jon's face was twisted as he struggled to release the newborn infant into the world.

Finally he was done. There was still some more of the procedure left, but the nurse held the baby up where Jon could see it, then wiped it down to clean it off.

"I wish," whispered Karyn, "that Emily, Jon, and I and the baby were at his home and everyone here just thinks we went away normally."

They vanished, and reappeared in front of Emily. They were all sitting down and Jon had the baby in his arms.

"God, I'm sore," said Jon. "And I can't believe I just did that. It feels like I just pushed a watermelon out of me. Using parts I didn't even have before." He wasn't sure how to deal with having a baby, and tried to make big smiles at it. "I don't really know how to be a mother, either. I'm a guy!"

"We should be able to change you back," said Karyn. "It might let you change back. You aren't pregnant any more, so maybe I can change you back without reversing the pregnancy wish."

"Are you sure?" asked Jon.

"By the way," asked Emily, "is it a boy or a girl?"
