The only contact Jon got from Jennifer was a note, given to her by Liz, saying "Don't even think of using that f@#$ing rock of yours on me. You're not going to get rid of me that easily. - Jennifer"
Jon was distracted for the rest of the day. After school, Karyn caught up with him, and tried to talk, but he was distant.
"What's wrong?" she asked,
"I've just got something on my mind." He couldn't shake the thought of Jennifer and Bryan. What was happening? Would he find out the next day? He didn't want to. He then asked, "did Jennifer talk to you today?"
"No, not at all. Actually, I'm kind of pissed that she didn't. She just goes and hangs out with Liz."
"Maybe she just wants to keep both of my lives seperate." This whole third-person thing was really confusing Jon.
Karyn tried to get off the topic. "Want to go see a movie tonight?"
Movie nights had been a regular thing for Jon and Karyn. It was totally platonic, although sometimes he had gotten ideas. Jon was really aching to see revenge of the Sith, but Karyn vetoed that, and they agreed on The Longest Yard.
After that, they were coming out of the theatre, when Jon spotted someone familiar. It was definitely Jennifer... and Bryan... with his arm wrapped around her!
Jon felt nauseous and said virtually nothing on the way home. While dropping him off, Karyn confronted him in the driveway.
"Okay, you're really scaring me, Jon. What is going on?"
"It was that stupid wish," he said, "when I wake up tomorrow... it'll still be today." He was on the verge of tears, "and for you it'll all happen this way... and I'll be Jennifer."
"My God..." Karyn gasped, "how long has this been going on?"
"Yesterday was the first... but I slept through most of it, so I don't remember. and now I have to go to school and be a girl."
"Jon, you've got to use the wishing stone. You've got to figure out some way to undo this."
"How?!" he wailed, "I've thought of everything, but nothing seems like it'd work."
Sullenly, Jon stepped out of the car and went inside.
Karyn now really resented the fact that Jennifer wouldn't speak to her.
And Jon, well, he just fell asleep.
Jennifer woke up the next morning in a strange room. Well, at first it appeared to be strange, but then she realized she'd slept in it all her life. No, that wasn't right - she was actually Jon, and Jennifer was fake, right? Then why was it that she remembered an entire life as Jennifer? Growing up with Liz, going out with Tad Roberts in 9th Grade... almost failing Calculus... and yet, she also remembered vaguely having been Jon.
She rolled over. At this point, she decided that she was Jennifer. And she hated Jon for making her live like this. And then, she realized that Jon had that stone, and that he could get rid of her at any time.
That's when she wrote the note.
She walked to school with Liz. She gave the note to her, to give to Jon in class.
Bryan Matthews was, indeed, hitting on her. And the part of her that was Jon was repulsed, because that part knew it was going to happen. But the part of her that was Jennifer didn't care, because she really liked Bryan.
But she hated that part of her that was Jon.
So she hatched a plan.
"I know where Jon keeps that stone," she grinned as she told Liz, "and I know he's going to the movies with that ho-bag Karyn tonight. His mom leaves the back door unlocked until 8. You can steal it for me."
Liz had some compunction about breaking & entering, but Jennifer was her oldest friend. She had to do it.
