...he decided that for the time being he'd avoid using the stone to rectify the problem. It was far too complicated an issue and he didn't want to risk further damage to reality by mucking it up even more. He was dealing with the space-time continuum here... and something very bad could happen.
That day at school, Jon met Karyn before class.
"So what happened?" she asked.
He shrugged and said, "I'm Jennifer."
"What? You don't look like a Jennifer..."
"'Cause I'm not," he said, laughing a bit, "yet. Or now. Or something. It's complicated."
The bell rang.
"You'll see," he said as they parted.
As Jon was heading for class, he saw a familiar-looking girl shuffling down the hallway. He called out to her.
"Jennifer!"
"Goddamnit," she muttered to herself.
"How's your day been so far?" he asked, somewhat jokingly.
"I knew this would happen." she groaned.
"What?"
"You'd come up to me and start talking. I knew that because I was you yesterday. Now, we can't be talking. Get it?!"
"Sorry..." he muttered. Boy, he was going to be a real bitch!
"We can't talk, okay? EVER. Now leave me alone. You'll find out all about my day tomorrow... when you're me."
"Fine..." he said, turning and leaving. Before he got to class, however, he took a look over his shoulder at Jennifer. A guy was talking to her. Bryan Matthews, the basketball team's center. "Walk away!" he whispered to himself, but she didn't. Instead, they went on down the hallways together.
"Oh sweet lord..." he muttered. "It's gonna be a long day..."
(AUTHOR'S NOTE: Interestingly - or not - this thread bears a resemblance to a story I once wrote called "Another Universe" in which a young man finds himself in virtually the same situation, except that he lives each day twice in seperate realities. It's just amusing to me that such a similar thread would come up. Okay, that's all.)
