The sound of heavy metal music blasting from behind the closed door of Zoe’s bedroom told Jon that Zoe was still the same. Well, she could be a boy or something, but his sister’s door was shut which meant that Zoe wanted privacy and Jon didn’t really want to get on his sister’s bad side even if it was in a situation as bad as this.

Moving further down the hall, Jon passed his brother’s room. Unlike his sister’s, Mikey’s door was open and even before Jon had reached it, he could hear tiny explosion noises that would be coming from his brother’s mouth as he played with his action figures.

Jon poked his head around Mikey’s door and sure enough, there was his little brother lying on the floor holding two action figures in his hands. Mikey spotted Jon hanging by his door and looked up, smiling.

“Oh hey Jon, want to play with my action figures?” He asked. Jon took a step back and shook his head.

“Um, sorry Mikey, not tonight. I was just going to get a drink before doing some homework.”

“Aww,” Mikey pouted.

“Maybe another time.” Jon told his brother. At least both of his siblings were alright, he thought. Jon moved on downstairs.

At this time of night, Jon would usually find his mother in the living room either reading a book or watching the evening news and that’s where Jon found her. His mother, Linda, was sitting on the sofa watching the news. Jon peeked around the door and saw that his mother was normal as well, he even glanced at the TV to make sure that nothing weird was going on.

Satisfied that no major damage had been caused by his wish Jon entered the kitchen and poured himself a drink.

“Jon, honey. Is that you?” His mother called from the living room.

“Yeah mom,” Jon called back as he went to join her. “I just came to get a drink before I turned in for the night.”

His mom looked at him and then her watch.

“Already? It’s only 8:30.” Jon nodded.

“I know, but I’m kind of tired so I thought that I might as well turn in.” His mom nodded.

“Ok, honey.”

Jon returned to his room and got ready for bed. Although he had seen for himself that everything was fine, he had a nagging suspicion that something wasn’t quite right, but he couldn’t put his finger on it.

Shaking his head, Jon decided that it could wait until morning. Maybe his head would be clearer by then to think up a solution.
