Sarah's wish made it so that Jenny and Karyn couldn't act like anyone but Sarah, even though, on the inside, they were still the same. But not really. Hearing the wish made them aware and, if they stopped bitching for a second, they were both able to feel their selves as separate, not the same. It took effort, and any passing comment from Sarah quickly got them back on track to thinking like her.
"So, like, I mean, we've got this rock, yas?" Karyn said, leaning forward from the passenger seat. "Like, trying to get boys isn't so fun, then. We could be thinking, like bigger, right?" Damn it, why am I giving her ideas! Karyn thought for a moment, before the new reality reasserted itself. Of course, she was thinking bigger, she was thinking like Sarah.
"Oh, like, totally! We could wish for anything!" Jenny said, giggling madly.
Karyn giggled too, stopped, tried to not continue, but giggled regardless.
Sarah laughed, tapping the wheel with her nails. "Oh, that's a wonderful idea, Karyn!" She grinned at the rearview mirror. "I am glad you're thinking like me now."
"Totally," Fuck you, Karyn thought.
"So, Mall. Many preys. So many things we could buy-"
"Wish for ourselves, Jenny. We no longer have to buy anything!"
"Oh, yeah. Right. So... what do we want?"
When infinite possibilities are presented, it is hard to come up with a single one. Idly, Sarah played with the stone in her fingers.
To be myself again, of course! Karyn thought, but instead said: "We could totally live out a little fantasy. Make the shops like us? Run a kingdom of cheerleaders? Take all the money?"
"Or the boys." Jenny added.
Sarah laughed in agreement. "Good one, Jenny girl."
Sarah brought the stone closer to her face, "I wish that all the boys and men at the mall are hot as I like them, and will do anything we want them to."
Bingo, Jenny thought. Now they had an out of this behavioral loop. She just hoped Karyn could see her strategy at work.
