And I found myself body-swapped again. I was outside, in Karyn's body--that way, Grandpa gave the stone to Karyn, and I was the one he gave the stone to. It was just about the only way to keep both wishes true.
I sighed and knocked on the door. My body (Michelle) opened it. Meanwhile, Michelle's body (Karyn) was looking herself over. "What happened?" she said. "This is impossible! I'm Michelle!"
"Let me guess, Karyn," I said. "You got a magic stone from my grandfather. And Jon, who's really Michelle, has the stone now."
"Yes, how did you know... uhh, who are you, if you're not me?"
"I'm Jon," I replied. "Now, the whole thing was caused by the stone. You don't really own it. Michelle, why don't you wish you knew who my grandfather really gave it to?"
"Okay," said my body. "I wish we knew who Grandpa really gave this stone to."
Then my body sheepishly handed the stone over to me. Because, you see, when the stone changed reality, it didn't really change history. If Michelle wished that Grandpa gave Karyn the stone, then Karyn now has a note saying it's her stone, and she remembers knowing Grandpa, but she didn't really get the stone. Using something that can see past the alternate reality--like asking the stone itself what really happened--would tell the truth. Now all I had to do was fix the body swaps... and get it so that Karyn was my friend again....
