There was the obligatory flash of bright light. And then, I realized my mistake. The first thing that I saw when my vision went back into focus was... myself, standing by the bed, clutching the stone. Not to mention looking totally confused. I, on the other hand, was sitting, huddled against the wall. Strange weight in my chest and long hair brushing against my neck confirmed my fears. I'd wished to be the one grandpa gave the stone to. Grandpa gave the stone to Michelle. Henceforth, I was now Michelle. Man, I am so stupid...
"Jon..." came my own voice, sounding weak and confused. Looking back at myself was weird enough, but knowing that Michelle was in my body was even weirder. Slowly, I stood up, losing my balance a bit when I reached full height, but catching myself on the wall. Everything on my body felt so foreign. I managed to walk over to the bed and sit down, and Michelle sat down beside me, whimpering a bit. I was guessing that, since she was still her but in my body, she was still docile. I wrapped an arm around Michelle, pulling, well.. him, into a hug.
"Its gonna be okay, Michelle... we'll figure this out, I promise..." I managed. Hearing my cousin's voice coming my mouth was quite startling! "Just... let me see the stone, and..."
Michelle looked over at me with angry eyes. "No way! You're the one who got us into this mess, and because of your greed, no less! What are our parents going to say? What..." The look of anger changed to a look of fear as he turned his gaze to the door. "What will Karyn think when she gets here?"
Suddenly, I didn't feel all too well. "K-Karyn?"
Michelle looked back at me with a nod. "You know, Karyn. My best friend The one you have a crush on..."
Her best friend?! Michelle had taken grandpa's favor, the stone, and now Karyn from me? I could hardly believe how much I'd messed things up with my lack of thought in wishing. I guess, in a way, I was kind of glad that the stone was out of my hands. I couldn't do any more damage as long as Michelle had it.
Michelle looked at me calmly with my own eyes. "All right, so let's evaluate . " he said, in a low tone. "You wished that you were the person who got the stone from Grandpa, and when the wish went off, you were in my body. Boom, wish fulfilled "
I nodded at him. "Yeah so what are you getting at?"
"Well " he said, matter-of-factly. "All we have to do is wish that Grandpa had given the stone to you "
My eyes went wide. This plan was ingenious. Not only would I get back into my body, but I'd have the stone back, too! "That's brilliant, Michelle!" I nearly shouted. This was the best plan I'd ever heard. I nodded at her emphatically. "Go ahead and do it. I'm afraid if I do it, I'd mess it up somehow."
Michelle nodded back at me, then squeezed the rock in her hands tightly. "I wish that our grandfather had left the stone to "
Before he could finish, there was a knock on the door. "Michelle? Michelle! It's Karyn!" came Karyn's unmistakable voice from the other side of the door.
