After burping the baby, Jon lay the now sleeping child back into her crib.
'Now what do I do?' Jon wondered as he quietly left the nursery. 'And what happened to Karen?'
Rather than use the rock to wish he knew what happened to Karen, Jon tried to just figure it out. While his mind was occupied with thoughts about what happened to Karen, he did a bit of cleaning up around the house. After picking up some of the baby's stuff that had been left laying about in the living room, Jon went back to the nursery and emptied the dirty clothes hamper and took a load to the laundry room to be washed.
While the load was washing, Jon sat down in the living room and absent-mindedly looked through the new mother's magazine that was there. Jon was a bit surprised at how interesting he found the stories about what your child should be doing, when and about how new, first time mom's cope with parenthood.
The second article pointed out that, while some men tried to do a good job at parenting on their own, for some reason, women were much better as single parents. One of the conclusions of the article was that for a single parent family, during the first four to six years, it was best if that parent was the mother. Both parent and child did much better in that situation.
