"So, Sarah, you're being nice to me because you want to be friends with me?"
"Well, sort of. It's really because I want to invite you to my sleepover. One of the girls cancelled so I decided why not. Besides then we can really see if you're a lesbian or a straight girl. Just answer me one question. If you could have any guy who would it be?" Sarah said.
"Guy?" Jon grimaced. "I'm still me. I don't like guys like that."
"So you've turned into a lesbian. A lesbian named Jon."
"And you want to invite me to your sleepover. Give me a break..."
"I'm serious, Jon," said Sarah. "You've heard the rumors about my sister, right? She is a lesbian. I know I can be a bitch, but I'm never going to make fun of anyone for whether they like guys or girls. And I told you why I want you here... now that you're a girl, the whole friends and rivals and who's cool and who isn't thing is different. You're pretty, and the guys like you, or you would be and they would if you dressed and acted like us. You belong with us."
Jon was rather skeptical that people deliberately planned school cliques like that. She had thought they just formed. But, realized Jon, if anyone was conniving enough to plan them like that, it would probably be Sarah. "Okay," she said. "I'll come to your sleepover."
