...He was going to join the cheerleading team. Afterall, Jon figured; why not?
Jon met-up with Sarah in history class the next day. This was now his third day of girlhood, and everybody was gradually getting-used to it. Sarah, for her part, was absolutely delighted to hear the news.
"Oh, you're going to have so much fun," she promised ("and you're going to get quite the trophy for recruiting me," Jon thought cynically). "You'll have to try-out today at four o'clock, but don't worry; it won't be a problem; I know for a fact that the coach is prepared at this point to sign-up any girl who volunteers."
"I don't know anything about cheerleading," Jon confessed.
"That's what practices are for, dummy!"
The try-out did indeed prove to be a breeze; though Jon found the tight, skimpy outfit to be alien, it was not really uncomfortable. In fact, Jon grudgingly noted, he was actually starting to like the feel of women's clothing. And as for the cheerleading itself, Jon was surprised to find that not only did he not hate it, he actually LOVED it! He was shaky, of course (having never done anything like it before), but he was passionate. There was something about the beat of the music that seemed almost hypnotic, and the rhythm of his movements, the enthusiasm he was conveying...it was a freedom that he had never known.
Afterwards (upon Jon's acceptance to the team), Sarah hugged him tightly.
"Congrats!" she exclaimed. "See, I TOLD you'd have fun, Jon!"
Jon happily returned the hug, having made a decision.
"Don't call me 'Jon,' anymore," she said. "My name is Jen now."
Sarah simply smiled and hugged her all the tighter. There was no going back now.
And Jen didn't particularly want to.
