The school bell rang and Meg and Candice emerged from the building, heading towards Jon's car.
"Hey, talk about luck. They ARE still here," Candice remarked.
"Hey, Meg. Who's your friend?" asked Jon.
"Candice Gilmore."
"You mean that jerk that was bothering you?"
"Yeah, but now she's my friend." Meg looked left and right. "Where's Karyn?"
"She's uh ... over there." Jon pointed towards the edge of the property. There was a deer grazing there.
"I don't see her. All I see is a deer."
"Yeah, that's her."
"You mean you wished her to be a deer? That's even worse than what you did to me."
"I didn't wish for her to be a deer. She made a comment about you and then got changed."
Meg thought about it. Deer. Dear. That could be it. She called her a dear.
"Hey, wait a minute. How did you know that I made a wish on you?"
"Candice told me. Where's the rock?"
"Why? What are you gonna do with it?"
"I'm gonna make sure Candice doesn't change back to the way she was. I want to be friends with her forever. And she doesn't was to change back, anyway. So, where is it?"
Jon opened his hand. In his palm sat the rock. "Right here."
Meg snatched it from him. "Hey!" yelled Jon.
Meg held it in her hand and said "I wish Candice would stay in her current form and state of mind for the rest of her life."
