His surprise must have shown, because the stranger by the stove turned. "What's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost..."
Standing there, wearing his mother's clothes, was a teenager. He'd never seen her before in his life. "Who...are you?"
She laughed. "Very funny, Mikey. Now eat your breakfast. We don't want to be late for school."
He sat down at the table, and shot a glance at the other two sitting there. His teacher, Miss Warren, was sitting there, dressed in Zoe's clothes. And there was a teenage girl in Jon's place. He'd seen her a few times around the neighborhood, and she was something of a shy nerdy type.
The wish... Mikey realized. Instead of changing just Jon's clothes, it had changed his whole family...except him.
He excused himself, and went upstairs to his room to get the stone. "I wish everything was back to normal." Nothing happened. "I wish I knew why that didn't work."
Because wishes cannot be reversed.
He paused. There had to be a way to fix this. He just hadn't thought of it yet.
"Mikey!" his pseudo-mom called from downstairs.
