Leonard said grace and started his breakfast, eating like a well-mannered bird for the first time in his life.
At the Druller home, breakfast was a sugary cereal which he had slurped disgusting(he now realized). At the Ferguson home, it was a homemade breakfast that the whole family sat and ate...and even talked without accusing each other of anything like Mrs. Druller(as he now thought of her) had. The food wasn't oily or greasy either. It was tasty and somewhat healthy at the same time.
He used a knife and fork, and wiped his mouth and listened to his new little brother and his parents discuss school, and bible study. It was so...civilized. He decided it was the way things should be.
There was a knock at the side door. A smiling girl dressed modestly walked in. "Good morning, Mr. Ferguson, Mrs. Ferguson. I'm sorry that I'm early. Leonard and I were going to walk to school together."
"Hello, Tina," Mrs. Ferguson replied. "Why don't you wait in the living room for a few minutes while we clear the table?"
"I'd be happy to help," the girl offered.
"Nonsense, you're our guest," she insisted. Tina nodded and went to wait.
"She's such a nice girl," his mother said quietly as they cleared the table. "You two would make a cute couple."
Leonard nodded, thinking maybe they would.
