Ada suddenly animated, and looked at her. "Don't you have work to do?" She said in heavily accented English. She looked different...assertive. She felt she was in charge.
Sarah herself was feeling quite the opposite. Susan, her mother, got up out of bed and pushed past Sarah. Sarah felt alone and confused. She wandered down to the kitchen.
"Another cup of coffee, Sarah," her daddy said, dismissively. He seemed to see her now as just the help. She poured it for him, not wanting to get in trouble.
Meanwhile, the nerd who stole her things came down the stairs, kissed her father on the cheek, shouted, "Bye, Daddy," and headed off outside perfectly timed with a honk from Biff's car.
Sarah had been that together. She had been Queen of her little world, but now she felt filled with hopelessness and despair. She was unaware it was Ada's despair she was feeling.
Ada came into the kitchen, and leaned over, putting her arms around Richard McMillan. She thought it was perfectly acceptable, being his wife and all, as did he when he kissed her.
Sarah thought she would be sick, and suddenly, panicking ran off in search of her real mother.
