The former Sarah Taylor walked towards a house that she had never seen before, yet she knew it was hers. The lawn was filled with dead trees and brown grass and the house itself looked like it hadn't been maintained in years, with cracking here and there and paint peeling off the wood siding. Really, it looked more like an abandoned cabin than a house.
She opened the rusty screen door and then the main door and just walked right in. She spotted a chubby middle-aged woman in the small living room, on her way to one of the bedrooms. The unkempt woman was smoking and watching TV, some game show from the sound of it.
The entire house was in shambles and in a state of squalor. It was hard to imagine anyone living like this, but Sarah was absolutely sure that this was her house.
There were two bedrooms and Sarah chose the larger one. After entering it, she immediately stripped out of her clothes; the woman watching TV in the front of the house still not even realizing that anyone else was there. Then she threw them aside and began to get dressed in the woman's clothing, which was cheap, old, and ragged. Sarah always tried to look her best, but apparently this woman knew nothing of that.
And after putting a cigarette in her mouth and lighting it, Sarah Lettman (mother of Derek Lettman, the emo boy) was born. Sarah had never smoked in her life, but now it all seemed natural, and she did it like a pro, not coughing even once.
As she walked back to the living room, she wondered why she walked away from her game show. It was in the final round and she really wanted to see who won.
But before she made it back to the couch, she stopped and looked around. She never really thought about it before, but this place was a real pigsty. What exactly was she doing with her life? Her waitressing job was enough to pay for this dump and keep both she and her son alive, but where was it all going?
At that moment, she decided to do something with her life, instead of just rotting away. Much like the old Sarah, the new one wanted to make something of herself. And the first thing she was going to do was clean this place up.
As she headed to the kitchen, she faintly heard the front door close. Thinking it was just the wind, she continued on with what she was doing.
And as the new Mrs. Lettman did that, the old Mrs. Lettman (now just Carla) walked away from the house and down the road. She didn't belong there anymore. She needed to find a place where she did.
