It took the former Sarah Taylor a long time to find her new clothes (several hours in fact), because it took that long to walk across town. During her long serpentine journey, no one paid any attention to her, although oddly no cars or trucks hit her any time she crossed a street.

And by the time she made it to her destination, her blazer and skirt were filthy with mud and puddle water. But Sarah didn't care. She was about to change her clothes anyway.

Karyn sat down at the table with her lunch tray and waited for ... well, for someone. It was strange. She had a feeling that she should have been eating with someone, but she couldn't think of who it was. Karyn didn't have any close friends, so why did it feel like she did?

She shook her head, then began to eat. Across the cafeteria, she noticed some commotion between two students. One was Sarah McMillan and the other was Mickey Madison. Apparently, they were fighting about something. And Sarah's girlfriend Rachel got involved too. Although, "girlfriend" was a stretch. Rachel may have been female, but she looked like a boy in drag. It must have been all those muscles and the fact that she liked to wear boy's clothes.

Karyn continued eating, trying to ignore what was happening, and that was when she heard a girl's voice.

"Hello," the girl said.

She looked up from her lunch and saw an Asian girl. Her name was Zoe Meshida, she recalled. Hm, odd name for a Japanese girl, Karyn thought. It's probably her American name. I wonder what her real name is.

"Uh, hi," Karyn said back to her. From what she knew of Zoe, she was a fairly shy girl. It surprised Karyn to see her actually trying to interact with someone.

"Can I sit?" Zoe asked.

"Sure," Karyn said.

Zoe smiled, sitting down with her tray of food. I am doing it, she thought. I am making a friend.
