Mikey finally decided to talk to Sarah after dinner. He called her to his room. Things were starting to shift from his perspective more and more and no one was noticing.
Zoe had been firmly goth, but Sarah was apparently more on the periphery, with a lot of goth friends. She was a devotee of the occult, but appeared to be much closer to the mainstream.
"What's up?" She asked.
"Can I trust you?" He asked. "I'm in big trouble, and I don't know what to do."
"I'm your sister, of course you can trust me."
"But...you're not," he said. "You're someone else. I made this wish, and it came true, and it is all out of control..."
"Mikey, you're not making any sense," Sarah said. "Take a deep breath..."
"Okay," he said, doing it. "I made this joke wish last night, that when my brother got out of the shower, he'd go to someone else's room and put on someone else's clothes and not notice. And that whoever's clothes he put on wouldn't notice either. I don't remember exactly how I said it. But...he's missing. And when I came downstairs, someone else was dressed up as Mom. When I went to the Doctor, my teacher was there, but she was dressed up like a high schooler...and the Doctor was Mom. And when I came home, you were dressed up like my sister, my sister's dressed up like my brother's best friend, and his best friend is dressed up like him...." he said in one long breath.
She stared at him. "Come again?"
"People are putting on other people's clothes and acting like them, but not exactly like them. Like my wish kept running out of control," he said. "I'm not nuts...it really happened."
Sarah looked at him. "I...believe you," she said. He wouldn't make up something that crazy.
"And the person whose acting like Mom was your age, and now she looks like a Mom..." he said. "That's really weird."
"This is serious stuff. Wait here," she said, heading to her room. She brought back a box of supplies and closed the door. She made symbols on the carpet using masking tape and sat inside it with him, and lit some candles, casting some sort of spell.
He could see the masking type glowing, the glow enveloping Sarah for a moment, but then it seemed to encounter some other force. There was a soundless explosion that seemed confined to her, and as he watched, she grew younger...to Zoe's age, and became a bit less glamorous and more normal. She'd been really pretty before, but now not as much.
"It didn't work," she said. "Something repelled the spell and bounced back. There's some powerful magic blocking me. I'm going to go put this away."
When he was alone, he got out the stone. "I wish, until I wish otherwise, that Sarah would start noticing when things change because of previous wish."
