Mikey suddenly felt dizzy, his knees went out from under him, and he fainted. When he awoke, he was lying in an examination room, Kyla standing over him, looking worried.
"Doctor, he's awake," she called.
Another face came into his field of vision. It was his mother, dressed in a lab coat. He relaxed. It must have just been a bad dream. "I'm Doctor Nakahashi. I'm covering Doctor Kaufman's patients this week," his mother said.
His heart races and he felt dizzy again, and resisted the urge to faint. The doctor examined him. "I can't find anything definite wrong with him, Mrs. Madison. It may just be a bug that is going around. What I want you to do is keep him at home and in bed today, and if he still feels ill tomorrow, we'll order a full battery of tests. We'll take some blood and some swabs for strep today, just in case."
"Thank you, Doctor," she said, helping Mikey up. "Do you feel like you can walk, Mikey?" She askd.
"Umm...yeah," he said, getting up.
As they walked out, Miss Warren, or Lydia Leeson walked up to them, wearing the thick glasses. "Is he all right?" She asked Kyla, concerned.
"Yes," Kyla replied. "I'm going to take him home to bed. How was your appointment?"
"It was just eyestrain, my opthamologist thinks. When he checked my eyes, they were back to normal. Now I have to get back to school."
"I can drop you off on the way. I'm sure your mother would appreciate it," Kyla offered.
Mikey buckled up in the back of the car and waited for the nightmare to end. It didn't. Kyla and Miss Warren spent the whole time acting as if they were different people, and then after she dropped Miss Warren off at high school, Kyla took him home and tucked him into bed.
Oddly enough, unlike his mother, she stayed for a while and played video games with him to make him feel better before leaving him to rest. He closed his eyes, hoping sleep would fix things.
