Bunny Whitefield grabbed the wireless phone from the kitchen and answered it.
"Hello?"
"Oh thank god. Bunny, you're still there." It was a girl's voice, but she didn't recognize it.
"Do I know you?" she asked the girl.
"It's me. Burt. I mean, I was Burt."
"You're not making any sense. I don't know anyone named Burt. I think you have me confused with someone else," Bunny said. Then she hung up the phone.
"She doesn't remember me," Burnice said, dropping her cellphone to the gym floor.
But, of course, Bunny wouldn't. From her point-of-view, her husband was Esmond. And Benny Gates wouldn't have known Burt either.
